StarFlyer restarted Kitakyushu to Taipei (Taoyuan) on 2 September 2026 and, from 10:00 on 1 July, opened a STAR COMET fare of JPY 5,000 one way from Kitakyushu and TWD 1,000 from Taipei. You can fly on it until 27 March 2027. The route had been suspended since March 2020, so this is the first service in six and a half years, at three round trips a week.

JPY 5,000 of fare, JPY 3,000 of departure tax, and a flight that leaves before midnight and returns at three in the morning

The JPY 5,000 is fare only. The fuel surcharge and taxes go on top, and any international ticket issued from 1 July 2026 carries JPY 3,000 of international tourist tax, up from JPY 1,000 until the end of that June. A fixed charge worth 60% of the fare lands on every departure, which bites hardest on exactly the cheap tickets that make the route worth taking.

The timings only exist because Kitakyushu Airport runs around the clock. Flight 7G801 leaves Kitakyushu at 23:40 and lands at Taoyuan at 01:10 on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, shifting to 23:50 and 01:30 on the winter schedule. The return, 7G800, leaves Taoyuan at 03:00 and reaches Kitakyushu at 06:20 on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Fly out on a Friday night and back on Monday morning and you spend two nights in Taipei while using up only the weekend.

Where it goes wrong is the three hours after you land. The Airport MRT into Taipei does not start until 05:57, so a 01:10 arrival meets a closed station. The Kuo-Kuang 1819 bus runs all night and reaches Taipei Main Station in about 55 minutes for TWD 133 to 164, which is the route to plan around: book a room near Taipei Main Station first and the first night stops being a problem. The 03:00 departure on the way home works the same way — assume you will not sleep the night before.

Who it’s forPeople living in Kyushu who can put together a Friday-night-out, Monday-morning-back trip a few times a year. It is wrong for anyone who cannot sleep on a night flight, and wrong if you wanted the first morning for sightseeing: landing at 01:10 takes that morning away for certain.
Already booked?STAR COMET is capped by seat count and is not loaded on every flight. Departures from Kitakyushu are at 23:40, or 23:50 on the winter schedule, which means getting to the airport the previous day. The Taipei end leaves at 03:00.
Compared with past salesThe same summer had China Airlines taking 20% off Tokyo departures, ZIPAIR at around JPY 15,000 one way and T’way Air taking up to 11% off Japan–Korea routes. On fare alone JPY 5,000 sits clearly below all of them, in the same band as the cheapest domestic sales of that season — Peach at JPY 4,000, Jetstar at JPY 3,820, Spring Japan at JPY 4,880 — except that this one leaves the country.
