Japan Airlines is selling Tokyo (Narita)–Delhi economy round trips from JPY 99,000, and from JPY 115,000 out of other eligible cities in Japan. Booking runs to 31 October 2026 and travel has to start between 9 September 2026 and 28 February 2027.

The fuel surcharge sits inside the fare; the aviation insurance surcharge and passenger facility charges are billed on top.

A three-day maximum stay, so the return has to start within three days of landing in Delhi

The Delhi fare went on sale on 2 September and it is a separate product from the Taipei, Hong Kong and Hawaii fares in the same campaign — different eligible flights, different rules. What sets it apart is the ceiling on the stay. JAL’s fare rules put the maximum travel period at three days for both the economy Special O-70 and the business Special X-70, where the Taipei and Hong Kong fares, and the business fares for Shanghai, Beijing, Dalian and Guangzhou, all run to 12 months. On this route alone the limit is shorter by an order of magnitude.

JAL advertises the other end of the range — a minimum stay with no restriction, so a no-night trip is possible — and its own page shows how that is meant to work. JL749 leaves Narita at 21:00 and lands in Delhi at 03:00 the following morning; JL740 leaves Delhi at 04:35 and is back at Narita at 16:00. Both operate daily, so a Friday night departure gets you home on Sunday afternoon. The limit that actually shapes an itinerary, though, is the upper one. You have to start the return within three days of arriving, so a seven-day route through Delhi, Agra and Jaipur cannot be built on this fare. It suits two nights inside Delhi, or a work trip that turns around as soon as the business is done. India also requires a visa before entry, and the paperwork takes the same time whether the stay is three days or thirty, so counting backwards from the e-Visa application, this is not a fare to grab on impulse.

The travel period runs from 9 September 2026 to 28 February 2027 with two gaps inside it. Departures from Japan are excluded from 23 October to 8 November 2026, and departures from Delhi from 11 to 19 November. The awkward part is that the two do not line up on the same dates. An itinerary leaving Japan in early November fails on the outbound, and one returning in mid-November fails on the inbound. Put that against the three-day ceiling and almost no combination of dates between late October and mid-November leaves a round trip that stands up. Read the travel period on its own and the booking screen is where you will find out.

Only JL749 and JL740 out of Narita are eligible, and JAL states plainly that Haneda departures are not. Booking class is O and mileage accrues at 30% of the flown sector. Ticketing is due within three days of booking, and by seven days before the first international flight or 31 October, whichever falls first. A booking can be changed for a fee; it cannot be refunded before travel begins. Room rates in Delhi split clearly between the airport area and the city centre, and with only two or three nights to spend, travel time carries more weight than it usually would, so lining the areas up by price on Klook before the flight is locked in makes the total easier to read.

Who it’s forAnyone whose business in Delhi finishes inside two nights, and who can reach Narita without a detour. At JPY 99,000 round trip this is cheap for a non-stop. It is the wrong fare for anyone touring India: the three-day ceiling rules out carrying on to Agra or Jaipur. Travellers who want to come back into Haneda are excluded outright. And anyone aiming at late October to mid-November will find that the outbound and inbound exclusions fall in different weeks, which leaves almost no dates on which a round trip can be built at all.
Already booked?Nothing is refundable before travel begins, so three conditions land at once: a three-day stay, no refund, and a single eligible pair of flights. If the dates might still move, the fare is close to a fixed cost from the moment it is bought. Payment falls due within three days of booking, seven in business class, which leaves little room to wait and see how the visa goes.
Compared with past salesThe Taipei fare from JPY 56,800 round trip, which opened on 8 September in the same campaign, has a travel period running to 27 March 2027 and a maximum stay of 12 months. The distances and the price brackets are not comparable, but under the same “special fare” name the freedom you get over your own itinerary turns entirely on which route it is. With plans still unsettled, waiting on a short-notice fare from the sales open now costs less when the trip falls through.

A regional departure adds a flat JPY 16,000, which is 16% of the economy fare and 5% of business

The step is the same amount in both cabins.

CategoryFrom Tokyo (Narita)From other eligible citiesUplift
Economy round trip (Special O-70)JPY 99,000+JPY 115,000+16%
Business round trip (Special X-70)JPY 299,900+JPY 315,900+5%

A flat JPY 16,000 against a base that differs by a factor of three reads very differently at each end. In economy a regional departure adds 16% to what you pay; in business the same 16,000 buys the trip to Narita for 5%. For someone outside Tokyo who was already weighing the upper cabin, that is usually less than a return domestic ticket and a night near the airport would come to.

Business class books into X with 70% of the sector’s miles, and only the ticketing window is looser — seven days after booking rather than three. The three-day maximum stay applies in exactly the same way. A smaller uplift does not buy a longer trip.
