Japan Airlines is selling Tokyo–Taipei economy round trips from JPY 56,800, Nagoya from 60,800 and the other eligible cities from 72,800. Booking runs to 3 November 2026 and travel has to start between 5 September 2026 and 27 March 2027.
Six flights qualify, and a spring-break seat has to be paid for by 3 November
The fare works on six flights and no others: JL802, JL809, JL8663, JL8664, JL8670 and JL8671. A date inside the travel period is not enough on its own — if the flight operating that day is not on the list, the fare does not apply. Seven months of travel paired with a fixed flight list looks like “go whenever you like”, but in practice both legs have to bend around those departure times. An itinerary that starts from a time requirement, such as a morning departure or an evening arrival, falls outside it from the start.
The second constraint is the calendar. Travel runs to 27 March 2027 while selling stops on 3 November. The New Year holidays and the spring break both sit inside the travel period, yet those tickets can only be bought up to 3 November. Whether a March itinerary can be settled during October is what decides if this fare is usable at all. And since refunds before travel begins are not permitted, locking one in before the dates are firm leaves the whole fare stranded if the trip falls through.
Booking class is O and mileage accrues at 30% of the flown segment. The maximum stay is 12 months and the minimum is two days, so length is unlikely to be what disqualifies you. Payment is due within three days of booking, and by three days before the first international departure or 3 November, whichever comes first. Changes to a booking are possible for a fee. Regional departures add a flat JPY 16,000 across the campaign, the same add-on that runs through the Hong Kong fare from JPY 75,800. Rates around Ximending and Zhongshan from November to February on Klook show what share of the total the airfare actually is.
Taipei is one of the most heavily contested international routes out of Japan. Past discounts include Cathay Pacific’s up to JPY 15,000 off, and there have been rounds where an LCC went for around 5,000 one way. Against those, 56,800 round trip puts JAL plainly on the expensive side. The difference is in what comes attached: the displayed fare already contains the fuel surcharge, mileage accrues at 30%, and the booking can be changed for a fee. Add baggage, seat selection and a change fee to an LCC one-way and the gap narrows well short of the headline. Travel three days with no checked bag and fixed dates, though, and the LCC wins on the total.

Economy charges Nagoya JPY 4,000 more; business makes Nagoya JPY 27,400 cheaper
On the same Taipei route, the step between departure cities runs in opposite directions depending on the cabin.
| Departure city | Economy round trip | Economy one way | Business round trip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tokyo | JPY 56,800 | JPY 36,400 | JPY 170,800 |
| Nagoya | JPY 60,800 (+4,000) | JPY 39,400 (+3,000) | JPY 143,400 (−27,400) |
| Other eligible cities | JPY 72,800 (+16,000) | JPY 44,400 (+8,000) | JPY 186,800 (+16,000) |
In economy, Nagoya gets away with JPY 4,000 while every other regional city carries a flat 16,000, so from Fukuoka or Sapporo the gap against Tokyo is four times what Nagoya pays. In business (Special X, miles at 70% of the flown segment) the order flips: Nagoya at 143,400 sits JPY 27,400 below Tokyo at 170,800. There is a cabin in which travelling to Nagoya first beats flying out of Tokyo.
One-way fares are running at the same time, at 36,400 from Tokyo, 39,400 from Nagoya and 44,400 elsewhere, on a narrower list of three flights — JL809, JL8663 and JL8671 — with no minimum stay. Two one-ways out of Tokyo come to 72,800, which is JPY 16,000 above the round trip. That is the price of mixing carriers between the outbound and the return, and it cancels the round trip’s advantage the moment you take it.
