Cathay Pacific ran its Summer Sale from 15 July to 14 August 2026, taking 9% off return fares bought in Japan, capped at JPY 15,000 per person. You had to be logged in as a free Cathay member and enter the code JPCXSUMMER, and the offer was limited to the first 1,400 bookings.

A percentage discount, so it pays on long-haul and in the front cabins

Because the reduction is a percentage, the size of it is decided by the fare. Nine per cent reaches JPY 15,000 when the fare is about JPY 167,000; above that the discount is flat, no matter how expensive the ticket. A return to Hong Kong in Economy therefore came back with a few thousand yen off, while a European or North American Business Class fare was where the cap actually bound. All three cabins qualified, which makes this a sale that rewards the ticket you were already going to buy at the top end rather than one that opens up a cheap seat.

The list of eligible departure airports was unusually wide. Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Chubu, Fukuoka and New Chitose were joined by Sendai, Komatsu, Hiroshima, Takamatsu, Okinawa and Ishigaki, seasonal and codeshare services included. Destinations were not limited to Hong Kong itself: the discount carried through to Taipei, Southeast Asia, Oceania, Europe and North America on connections via Hong Kong, so a regional airport could be the starting point of a long-haul booking rather than a separate domestic leg.

Only the air fare is discounted. Airport taxes, the fuel surcharge and Japan’s international tourist tax — JPY 3,000 on tickets issued from 1 July 2026 — all sit outside it, and their share of the total grows with distance. Against the figure you actually pay, the effective reduction is therefore below 9%, and the further you fly the further below. The cap of 1,400 bookings was small as well; the code stopped working once it was reached, not on 14 August.

Who it’s forAnyone routing through Hong Kong to Europe or North America, and anyone buying a front-cabin seat. The higher the fare, the larger the 9% becomes, and it hits the JPY 15,000 ceiling somewhere above a JPY 167,000 ticket. It is close to pointless on an Economy return to Hong Kong alone, where the saving is a few thousand yen against the work of registering an account.
Already booked?Three steps, in order: sign in to the free Cathay membership on the official site, type JPCXSUMMER into the promotion code box under the route and dates before searching, then confirm on the results screen that 9% has come off before paying. Search before signing in and the discount does not attach. When the connection lands late, a room on the Hong Kong side is easier to build the itinerary around.
Compared with past salesThe same route drew other offers that year: JAL priced Tokyo to Hong Kong at JPY 75,800 return in September, and Hong Kong Airlines went to 25% off from five Japanese cities. A percentage code and a published all-in fare cannot be compared as they stand — line them up on what leaves your account after taxes.
