Hong Kong Airlines ran a summer sale on its routes from Japan to Hong Kong. Booking was open from 8 July to 31 July 2026, for travel between 24 August and 15 December. Economy came down 15% and business 25%, but the 25% applied to round trips from Tokyo, in booking class I, and nowhere else.
The 25% is Tokyo business return only; the 15% in economy covers all five cities
The table on the campaign page has two rows in it. The first is Tokyo, business class, booking class I, round trip, 25%. The second is Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Okinawa and Sapporo, economy class, booking classes T, V, W and O, one way or round trip, 15%. Fly business out of Osaka or Fukuoka and the 25% is not there; fly one way out of Tokyo and it is not there either. “Up to 25% off from five Japanese cities” is a sentence that only survives if the two rows are flattened into one.
The discount reaches the base fare and stops: taxes, fees and surcharges are outside it. It applies automatically, though, so the fare in the search results is already the final discounted amount. Nothing has to be typed into a coupon field, and the flip side is that the booking class is the only way to tell whether the discount landed. Mixed-class itineraries qualify only when every sector is booked in an eligible class. Availability governs the whole thing, so the eligible classes simply do not appear on some flights and some dates.
Promotional fares carry their own rules on changes, cancellation and refunds, and those rules move with the booking class. The single letter on your confirmation is what to look the rules up against. The cheapest economy classes can come with a thin free checked baggage allowance, so anyone with a bag to check should read the allowance on the purchase screen rather than after arriving at the counter. Departures from Japan on or after 1 July 2026 also carry the JPY 3,000 international tourist tax. Rooms in Hong Kong are worth pinning to the dates early on Klook so that the total stays readable.
