STARLUX Airlines sold a limited-time fare from eleven points in Japan to five US airports and to Prague, on sale from 31 July until 23:59 Japan time on 31 August 2026. Economy returns started at JPY 168,000 with the fuel surcharge included, Okinawa to Seattle, and at JPY 189,000 from Tokyo to Prague. Every itinerary connects in Taipei, and no promotion code was needed.

Returns from JPY 168,000 through Taipei, but only five of the eleven departure points carried a published figure

Five amounts were published. Okinawa to Seattle at JPY 168,000, Osaka to Los Angeles and Nagoya to San Francisco at JPY 179,500, Fukuoka and Kumamoto to Phoenix at JPY 187,000, and Tokyo to Prague at JPY 189,000. Cheapest to dearest is JPY 21,000, so changing the destination barely moves the total. The gap that matters is the one in the denominator: eleven departure points were eligible and five figures were shown. Kobe, Sapporo, Hakodate, Sendai and Miyako, and Tokyo for the US routes, carried no amount at all, which leaves an availability search as the only way to learn what your own airport costs.

The figure covers the fare and the fuel surcharge, and stops there. The aviation insurance surcharge, the booking fee and airport taxes are added on top — and for a ticket issued on or after 1 July 2026 those taxes include the JPY 3,000 Japanese international tourist tax. What the fare does carry is two checked bags at no charge, plus COSMILE accrual. On a long-haul return, baggage on its own is worth several thousand yen to more than ten thousand, so the heavier the trip the better this fare reads. Eligible booking classes are Premium Economy (E) and Economy (V, S and N), on JX-operated flights only.

One sale, two travel windows 85 days apart. Prague runs from 31 July 2026 to 24 March 2027, which is 237 days; the US routes stop on 29 December 2026, which is 152. The New Year turnaround is therefore the practical deadline for anyone heading to the United States, and a March 2027 trip cannot use this fare at all. Prague keeps its window into late March, so the European winter and early spring stay inside it — fitting, since the Prague route opened in August 2026 and this sale marked its launch. How to compare fares quoted on different bases is set out separately.

Who it’s forTravellers who can live with a connection and who will use both free checked bags on a long trip; depending on the itinerary, a stopover in Taipei can be built into the same ticket. It is the wrong fare for anyone who wants a nonstop. Every eligible routing goes through Taipei, and the connection puts the total journey well beyond a direct service.
Already booked?Check that your booking class reads E, V, S or N and that the flight is operated by JX. The discount applied automatically with no code, so a booking in an eligible class is already at the sale price. Two checked bags come with the fare — if you bought baggage separately, you paid for it twice.
Compared with past salesThirty-two selling days was the longest run of the summer. T’way Air’s August sale held 31 days, ANA’s international flash sale seven, and Qantas’s New Zealand sale three, as did Spring Japan’s twelfth-anniversary sale; Jetstar Japan’s domestic sale ran two. The median of those six is five days. A long window is not the same as available seats, though: the airline states that seat numbers are capped and that it may change or withdraw the offer without notice.

Before ranking the summer’s sales, settle which side of the line the taxes sit on

Line the headline numbers up and the order is wrong. STARLUX’s JPY 168,000 has the fuel surcharge inside and the taxes outside. ANA’s international flash sale drew the line in the same place, with baggage in the fare. Qantas’s New Zealand sale was the odd one out: taxes inside the quoted total, along with meals and a checked bag.

Airport taxes on a long-haul return vary by destination and pass JPY 10,000 often enough to matter. Qantas looked cheap partly because it had already added them. Take each carrier through to the payment screen before deciding, and expect the order to shift once more when baggage charges land. If the plan includes a night in Taipei on the way, Klook gives a sense of what the room adds.
