Qantas sold a New Zealand sale over three days, 4 to 6 August 2026, on flights from Haneda, Narita and Sapporo New Chitose to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown. Economy returns opened at JPY 108,470 all in, travel ran from 31 August 2026 to 30 June 2027, and the fare was to close the moment the allotted seats went.
JPY 108,470 already carried the surcharge, the taxes and a checked bag, and the four cities sat JPY 530 apart
The yardstick mattered more than the number. Qantas states on its own fare page that every fare it publishes includes the fuel surcharge, the taxes, meals and checked baggage, which leaves almost nothing to be added between the screen and the card. On a Japan–New Zealand sector that single line is worth real money: a checked bag bought separately moves a return by anywhere from a few thousand yen to more than ten thousand. The Japanese international tourist tax of JPY 3,000, which applies to tickets issued on or after 1 July 2026, sat inside the figure too.
Choosing a city bought almost nothing. Nine pairs were published: Narita to Wellington was the cheapest at JPY 108,470, and Queenstown from either Tokyo airport, along with all three New Zealand cities out of Chitose, was the dearest at JPY 109,000. Everything else fell between. Decide the destination on the itinerary, not the fare. Those amounts come from TRAICY’s report of 5 August 2026; the Japanese-language Qantas New Zealand fare page answered a request on 6 August with a notice that fares were temporarily unavailable because of a technical problem. Business class started at JPY 428,510, about JPY 320,000 above the economy figure.
Qantas flies no direct service between Japan and New Zealand. The itinerary runs through Sydney from Haneda or Narita, or through Melbourne or Brisbane from Narita, and the connection stretches the journey well past a nonstop. Against that, the travel window is 304 days long and holds the whole of the New Zealand spring, summer and autumn, since the seasons there are the reverse of Japan’s. The airline adds that specific departure dates and conditions apply, so the lowest fare was never on every date in the window. Three selling days against ten months of travel means the work happens before the booking screen: pick three or four candidate dates first. How to compare fares that are quoted on different bases and what card-attached travel insurance actually covers are set out separately.

Three sales ran that week, and each one drew the line around the fare somewhere else
ANA’s international flash sale (4–10 August) and T’way Air’s August sale (1–31 August) overlapped these three days. All three were discounts; none of them meant the same thing by the figure on the screen. Qantas put the fuel surcharge, the taxes and a checked bag inside it. ANA included the surcharge, added the taxes at payment, and carried baggage in the fare. T’way displayed a surcharge-and-tax-inclusive price but charged for a checked bag as a rule.
Run each one to the payment screen before ranking them, because one bag on a long-haul return is enough to reverse the order. Room rates move on the same dates the seats do, and Klook covers Auckland and Christchurch.
