Japan Airlines is selling Honolulu economy round trips from JPY 124,600 out of Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, with neighbour islands such as Kona and Lihue from 131,800 out of Tokyo. Booking runs to 31 October 2026 and travel has to start by 15 July 2027.
A 25 December departure adds JPY 90,000 one way, and Golden Week adds 100,000 on the round trip
The headline 124,600 holds until the travel date lands on a specified day. Add-ons out of Japan start on 10 December.
| Departure date from Japan | Add-on (one way) |
|---|---|
| 25–27 December 2026 | JPY 90,000 |
| 27–30 April 2027 | JPY 50,000 |
| 11 December / 23–24 December / 28–30 December 2026 | JPY 30,000 |
| 10 December / 31 December 2026, 19–24 March / 23–26 April 2027 | JPY 20,000 |
The same mechanism runs on the way home, in nine bands rather than four.
| Departure date from Honolulu | Add-on (one way) |
|---|---|
| 2 January 2027 | JPY 90,000 |
| 1 January / 3 January / 3–8 May 2027 | JPY 50,000 |
| 4 January / 1–2 May / 9 May 2027 | JPY 30,000 |
| 14–15 December 2026, 26–31 March 2027 | JPY 20,000 |
Leave at Christmas and fly home after New Year and the round trip picks up JPY 180,000 of add-ons on top of 124,600, for 304,600 per person. Shifting to a 26 December departure and a 4 January return still lands at 244,600. For anyone aiming at Hawaii over the New Year period, this is a different product at a different price rather than a discounted one.
Golden Week closes in the same way. A Japan departure on 27–30 April costs 50,000 and a Honolulu departure on 3–8 May costs another 50,000, so a trip that goes out over the holiday and comes back during it carries JPY 100,000 round trip. September to November is the opposite case: not a single add-on day falls in those three months, in either direction, so the quoted figure is the floor of what you pay.
The flight matters too. JL71 and JL72 carry a JPY 3,500 one-way add-on and JL73 and JL74 carry 5,000, which moves the round trip by 10,000 on an otherwise identical date. The international sectors to and from Japan have to be flown on JAL-operated aircraft; codeshares do not qualify. Booking class is Z with mileage at 30% of the flown segment, payment is due within one day of booking and by five days before the first international departure or 31 October, whichever falls first, and a booking can be changed for a fee but not refunded before travel begins.
The length of the stay is the last constraint. The maximum is 14 days and the minimum two, where the Taipei fare and the Hong Kong fare in the same campaign both run to 12 months. Hawaii alone is cut at a fortnight, which rules out a three-week stay or an itinerary that uses Honolulu as a staging point for somewhere else. On the neighbour-island side the fare covers Kona, Lihue, Lanai, Kahului, Molokai, Kapalua and Hilo, and from Tokyo the gap against Honolulu is only 7,200 — less than the connecting domestic ticket and the layover usually cost, so booking straight through to the island often lands cheaper. Rates in Honolulu and Kona for November and December on Klook give the rest of the total.

Leaving from anywhere but Tokyo, Osaka or Nagoya adds JPY 16,000, whichever island you pick
There are only two departure bands.
| Departure city | Honolulu (round trip) | Hawaii neighbour islands (round trip) |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya | JPY 124,600 | JPY 131,800 (from Tokyo) |
| Other eligible cities | JPY 140,600 | JPY 147,800 |
The step is a flat JPY 16,000 and it does not care whether you are going to Honolulu or to an island. Leaving from Sendai or Fukuoka means weighing that 16,000 against getting to Tokyo under your own arrangements, and buying a separate domestic ticket can move the total by close to 30,000. Measured that way, the headline figure is not what a regional departure pays.
What splits the decision is the connection. Put the domestic leg on the same booking and JAL handles the rebooking when a delay breaks it; arrange it yourself to avoid the 16,000 and that cover disappears. If the international flight leaves early enough to need a night near the airport, the hotel lands on the same side. The question is whether JPY 16,000 reads as an add-on or as the premium on a connection guarantee, and regional travellers answer it differently.
