ANA opened an international flash sale at midnight on 1 September 2026. Osaka to Shanghai led the economy round trips at JPY 41,700, booking closed at 23:59 on 7 September, and travel ran to 30 June 2027.

Fourteen economy fares landed under JPY 70,000 and nine were China, while the right to change cost JPY 4,000 to Hawaii and JPY 30,000 to North America

Of the 35 economy segments, 14 came in below JPY 70,000 for a round trip.

DestinationEconomy round trip
Shanghai (from Osaka)JPY 41,700+
Shanghai (from Tokyo), Beijing (from Osaka)JPY 48,200+
BeijingJPY 51,700+
Dalian, Hangzhou, ManilaJPY 55,700–56,300+
Ho Chi Minh City, Hong KongJPY 59,600–61,600+
Guangzhou, Shenzhen, SingaporeJPY 62,600–63,500+
Hanoi, QingdaoJPY 68,000–68,700+

Nine of the fourteen were mainland China and Hong Kong; five were Southeast Asia. The departure airport moved the price as much as the destination did: Shanghai was JPY 41,700 out of Osaka against JPY 48,200 out of Tokyo, a gap of JPY 6,500, and Beijing repeated the pattern at JPY 48,200 against JPY 51,700. Osaka was the cheaper origin on both. Further out, Hawaii started at JPY 105,400, European cities at JPY 160,000, and mainland North America — Los Angeles and the rest — at JPY 171,900.

Easier to miss is that several destinations carried two fares, one non-changeable and one changeable, and the premium for the second is not proportionate.

Route groupPremium for a changeable fare
Hawaii (economy)JPY 4,000
Europe, Stockholm, Hawaii premium economyJPY 10,000
Mainland North America, Orlando, Mexico CityJPY 30,000

That is a 7.5-fold spread between the cheapest and the dearest version of the same option. JPY 4,000 buys room to move a Hawaii booking; the identical insurance on New York or Los Angeles costs JPY 30,000. With unsettled dates the Hawaii side makes the changeable fare an easy call, while on the North America side it is usually cheaper to take the fixed fare and settle the dates first. Neither version is refundable.

Against the round that closed on 10 August, all three headline routes came down — but not by comparable amounts.

DestinationAugustSeptemberChange
HawaiiJPY 114,600JPY 105,400−9,200 (8%)
European citiesJPY 162,000JPY 160,000−2,000
Shanghai (from Osaka)JPY 43,900JPY 41,700−2,200

Only Hawaii moved in any meaningful sense; JPY 2,000 on a JPY 160,000 European fare and JPY 2,200 on Shanghai are the same level dressed differently. Anyone who wanted Hawaii and let August go was rewarded for waiting, which is not a reliable rule but is what happened here. How often each carrier runs a round is lined up in Sale Coverage by Airline. Every figure above is the fare portion: fuel surcharge and taxes sit outside it, and departures from Japan have carried the international tourist tax of JPY 3,000 per person since 1 July 2026, so reading JPY 41,700 as the price of Shanghai will not match the payment screen. Budgeting the rest of it starts with what a night in Shanghai costs.

Who it’s forTravellers starting from Osaka and heading into China: Shanghai at JPY 41,700 and Beijing at JPY 48,200 both undercut Tokyo, and nine of the fourteen cheapest segments point that way. It is no use to anyone flying over the New Year or Chinese New Year. The blackouts come in four shapes — Hawaii 24 December 2026 to 3 January 2027; Southeast Asia, India and Australia 26 to 29 December; Europe 18 to 28 December plus 29 March to 4 April 2027; China routes 10 to 15 February 2027 for departures from Japan — so a holiday itinerary is quicker to rule out than to check.
Already booked?Mainland North America lists no blackout at all, but its travel period stops on 30 April 2027, two months earlier than the other groups, which is the constraint that actually bites there. A changeable fare is still non-refundable, so if the dates might move, the question is whether the premium is worth it — JPY 30,000 on North America is a large bet on uncertainty.
Compared with past salesHawaii fell JPY 9,200 from August, Europe JPY 2,000 and Shanghai JPY 2,200 — one real move and two that are noise. Running at the same time, Air Macau’s off-peak sale was open until 9 September.
