Japan Airlines is selling Tokyo–Hong Kong economy round trips from JPY 75,800, and from JPY 91,800 out of the other eligible cities. Booking runs to 25 October 2026, travel has to start between 18 September and 25 October, and only JL027 and JL028 qualify.
The last day you can buy is the last day you can fly, so the outbound has a 38-day window
Selling closes on 25 October and the travel period ends on the same date, so there is no locking in a cheap trip further out. The outbound has to sit inside the 38 days from 18 September to 25 October. Because the travel period is written as “start of travel” and the maximum stay is 12 months, a return in November or later still satisfies the rules once the departure lands in that window; the minimum stay is two days. Only the day you leave is tightly bound, and for a November departure this fare simply does not reach.
The two eligible flights sit at the edges of the day. JL027 leaves Haneda at 00:45 and lands in Hong Kong at 04:20; JL028 leaves Hong Kong at 23:45 and reaches Haneda at 04:55 the next morning. Fixed to two flights means the departure time is not yours to pick in either direction, and an itinerary with plans booked from the morning of arrival will not survive a 04:20 landing. The route is also on a limited-period schedule, so the operating days have to be checked before the dates are set.
Since 17 September a second fare has been sitting on the same two flights.
| Fare | Tokyo (Haneda), round trip | Other eligible cities | Stay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Special Z-IJ (from 8 Sep) | JPY 75,800 | JPY 91,800 | 2 days to 12 months |
| Special Z-00 (from 17 Sep) | JPY 84,800 | JPY 100,800 | No minimum, 3 days maximum |
| Special X-IJ (business) | JPY 167,800 | JPY 183,800 | Up to 12 months |
| Special X-00 (business) | JPY 184,800 | JPY 200,800 | No minimum, 3 days maximum |
The later fare costs JPY 9,000 more and caps the stay at three days. What it buys is the removal of the minimum stay, which makes an overnight or same-day return possible — worth the 9,000 only to someone whose business in Hong Kong fits in a day. Stay two nights or more and there is no argument for anything but Z-IJ, which is cheaper and looser. JAL’s own front page now leads with the JPY 84,800 no-minimum fare while the 75,800 stays on the East Asia fare page, so the cheaper number is not the one being advertised.
Booking class is Z and mileage accrues at 30% of the flown segment; the business fares book into X and accrue 70%. Payment falls due within one day of booking and no later than the first international departure — Taipei allows three days and Honolulu one, so Hong Kong sits at the short end, and holding the seat over a weekend is not on offer. Regional departures add a flat JPY 16,000 whatever the destination or cabin, and the same add-on runs through the Taipei fare from JPY 56,800 and the Honolulu fare from JPY 124,600. October in Hong Kong is cool enough to walk, so rates on Klook are worth lining up before the total is settled.

Against HK Express at JPY 3,000 one way, the axis is not price but what comes with it
On a route where a round trip occasionally drops under JPY 10,000, putting 75,800 beside it settles nothing. Three things separate them: the displayed fare already contains the fuel surcharge, mileage accrues at 30% of the flown segment, and a booking can be changed for a fee. Check a bag and stay two nights or more and the gap against an LCC total, once baggage and seat selection are added, is narrower than the headline. Hong Kong also takes a while to reach from the airport, so the late arrival and late departure quietly remove a hotel night from the count.
Set against that, this fare gives you a 38-day outbound window and two flights. An LCC sale usually closes within days of being announced but hands you a travel period running six months out. The split is by who you are rather than what you pay: fixed dates point at JAL, flexible dates point at waiting for the next LCC round. Outside October, the uses for this one are narrow.
