AirAsia sold a 10 per cent discount across all flights and all seats. Booking ran the seven days from 17 to 23 August 2026, and travel from 24 August to 31 March 2027. The routes the airline promoted with a card of their own were the Bangkok services out of Narita, Osaka and Nagoya, plus Kuala Lumpur out of Osaka.

10 per cent is the thinnest of the recent rounds, and AirAsia itself ran 20 per cent a month earlier

A sale that shows a rate rather than an amount gives you nothing to judge cheapness against, so the useful comparison is what everyone else was quoting in the same weeks. Of the airfare bulletins published here between late June and August 2026, nine carried a discount rate in the headline.

AirlineMaximum discount
Eastar Jet99%
Fuji Dream Airlines80%
Hong Kong Airlines25%
China Airlines20%
AirAsia (July round)20%
Qatar Airways15%
Jin Air15%
T’way Air11%
Malaysia Airlines10% (on a named card)

Headline rates from the nine bulletins published here between 28 June and 12 August 2026 that state a discount rate. Median 20%.

The median of those nine is 20 per cent, which puts this round at the bottom of the list. The one other 10 per cent, Malaysia Airlines, only reaches that figure when the booking is paid with a particular card, so as a plain discount this is the thinnest of the set. The harder comparison is not with other airlines at all: AirAsia put out a mega sale at up to 20 per cent off Asian routes on 13 July, so the rate halved in roughly a month. With the travel window open to the end of March 2027, a round in September or October would still reach the same winter flights, which makes waiting a real option rather than a consolation. How often each airline runs one is counted separately.

The two windows are built at very different scales. Seven days to book against 220 days to fly, a ratio of about 31 to 1, which is the shape of a sale aimed at filling next winter rather than clearing next week. Dates that are not yet fixed are no obstacle if a trip between December and March is plausible. What is missing is the exclusion list: the card says only that conditions apply, and the travel window contains both the New Year and the spring holidays. Aiming at either means entering the dates and watching whether the discount survives. Working a booking screen for this is set out separately.

Who it’s forTravellers who already have Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok on the calendar, and anyone wanting a winter or spring seat locked in early. Ten per cent off something you were buying anyway needs no further justification. It is the wrong sale for anyone who wants to know the fare first: the cards carry the frames “from” and “one-way fare including tax” with no number inside them, and the figure appears only after dates go into the search.
Already booked?Nothing before 24 August qualifies. Travel opens the day after the sale closes, so the remainder of the summer holiday sits outside it from the start. If you already hold an autumn or winter flight, set the 10 per cent against the change fee before moving anything.
Compared with past salesFive cards were on the promotion list at the time of checking, counting the general one. Three of the other four were Bangkok routes and Kuala Lumpur had a single Osaka service. “All flights and all seats” and the spread the airline actually pushes are not the same thing, and the gap between them is where the useful reading sits.

More: three departure airports only, so connecting from a regional airport eats the 10 per cent

The cards standing individually cover Tokyo (Narita) to Bangkok, Osaka to Bangkok, Osaka to Kuala Lumpur and Nagoya to Bangkok. Nothing on the list departs from Sapporo or Fukuoka. For anyone connecting from a regional airport the domestic leg is bought at full price, and on a short international fare that leg can easily exceed what 10 per cent takes off — the discount lands on the international fare and nowhere else. The three-night Kuala Lumpur itinerary covers the Osaka route at the far end, built around the Twin Towers and the city standards. Room rates move the total as much as the fare does, and what a night in Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur costs is the figure to put beside it.
