Vietjet Air sold its Double Day Super Sale on the non-stop routes between Japan and Vietnam, from JPY 21,000 one way with aviation taxes and surcharges included. The buying window was three days, 02:00 on 18 August to 01:00 on 21 August Japan time, for travel from 7 September 2026 to 31 March 2027 outside the peak periods.

JPY 21,000 is JPY 9,310 above last October’s JPY 11,690, so this is not the airline’s cheap level

Three rounds have carried the same “includes aviation taxes and surcharges” wording, which makes them directly comparable. The round of 29 to 31 October 2025 opened at JPY 11,690, for travel from 1 December 2025 to 27 May 2026. The round of 7 to 9 July 2026 opened at JPY 21,000. So did this one. The gap from last October is JPY 9,310, about 1.8 times, and two consecutive rounds at the same figure read as a floor that has settled rather than a one-off. Anyone who remembers the low ten-thousands will not find this a number to move on. Reading a fare against the basis it is quoted on is set out separately.

The clock is the second trap. What the airline publishes is Vietnam time — 00:00 on 18 August to 23:00 on 20 August, GMT+7 — and the detail page for the October 2025 round carried the Japan-time equivalent alongside it, while this one does not. You do the two-hour arithmetic yourself, and it bites at the closing end: go to bed on the 20th meaning to buy first thing, and it has finished before you wake. In practice the window ran from the 18th to the daylight hours of the 20th.

A second campaign shared the same three days. Entering the code HIVJ20 took up to 20 per cent off SkyBoss and Business Class fares — but off a different base. The JPY 21,000 already contains aviation taxes and surcharges, whereas the 20 per cent applies only to the fare portion, with airport taxes and the fuel surcharge left outside it. Running side by side over one window does not make them the same offer. Booking was limited to the official website, the official app and the WeChat mini program, with Visa, Mastercard, AMEX and JCB cards, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay accepted.

Who it’s forTravellers who can use the length of the travel window. It runs to 31 March 2027, so a trip in the next Japanese financial year is inside it. It is useless for flying before early September: travel opened on 7 September, which leaves the rest of the summer holiday out. It is also the wrong sale for the New Year or Tết — the airline says only that peak periods such as summer, public holidays and Tết are excluded “according to the seasonal characteristics of each market”, and publishes no list of excluded dates.
Already booked?Cancelling and rebuying does not return cash. The terms refund to travel credit tied to the passenger, net of a fee; an itinerary change is possible on payment of a change fee. So a saving on paper does not become money in hand. If an existing booking sits well above JPY 21,000 the rebuild is worth it, and if the difference is a few thousand yen it is cheaper to leave it alone.
Compared with past salesThree selling days, every time. The shape the name implies — a short, concentrated release in the middle of the month — keeps repeating, which makes the next one predictable even when the fare is not. How often each airline runs a sale is counted separately.

More: Nagoya and Fukuoka to Ho Chi Minh City are not in this round’s eligible routes

The airline lists eligibility in three lines: Tokyo and Osaka to Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi; Nagoya, Fukuoka, Hiroshima and Shizuoka to Hanoi; Osaka to Da Nang. Two destinations are therefore open only from Tokyo and Osaka, the four regional cities are Hanoi-only, and Da Nang is an Osaka departure. The October 2025 round was framed as all routes between Japan and Vietnam, with Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka all serving both Vietnamese cities and Hiroshima serving Hanoi. Nagoya and Fukuoka to Ho Chi Minh City have dropped out since, and Shizuoka to Hanoi and Osaka to Da Nang have come in. A trip from central Japan or Kyushu to Ho Chi Minh City worked last time and does not work under this wording. The listing also stops at “Tokyo”, with no line drawn between Narita and Haneda.

Da Nang, the addition, puts the central Vietnamese beaches and the World Heritage sites inland within one trip, and entering from Osaka in the low twenty-thousands one way moves the total more than anything else does. The six-day Da Nang and Hoi An itinerary has the ground costs, and packing inside a 7 kg cabin limit matters here because what was quoted is the air fare alone: the detail page says nothing about checked baggage or seat selection. Room rates are the other half of the number, and what a night in Da Nang or Hanoi costs is worth setting beside the fare before the dates are fixed.
