Japan Airlines held a domestic time sale. The general sale ran for 24 hours, from midnight to 23:59 on 15 July 2026, and JAL Mileage Bank members could book a day earlier, on 14 July. The lowest fare was JPY 4,730 one way, for travel between 24 August and 30 September 2026.

Naha to Kumejima at JPY 4,730, while Haneda to Itami starts at JPY 9,130

The published examples were Haneda to Itami at JPY 9,130, Haneda to New Chitose at JPY 11,000 and Haneda to Naha at JPY 11,440. That lowest figure of JPY 4,730 belongs to Naha–Kumejima, a route inside Okinawa prefecture rather than a trunk route out of the mainland. At 41% of the Haneda–Naha fare it is the cheapest seat in the sale, and it does not go anywhere near Tokyo. Read the headline alone and you would expect to reach Okinawa from the mainland for under JPY 5,000, which was never on offer. Passenger facility charges are levied at each airport on top of the fare, so the amount paid always exceeds the figure displayed.

These are promotional fares, and the date and time cannot be changed once bought. Refunds are restricted, and in some cases the child and disability discounts do not apply. Booking ran through the JAL site and the JAL app only. The part that catches people is the deadline inside the deadline: unless the purchase is completed on the same day as the booking, the reservation is cancelled without notice. Holding a seat is not the same as having one.

On the day, the JAL site switches to a virtual waiting room and processes arrivals in the order they connect. People who load the page around 30 minutes before the start are placed in the waiting-room holding screen, so logging in exactly on the hour does not move anyone up the queue. Preparation is what pays: sign in to JMB beforehand, have every passenger’s name and date of birth ready to paste, and settle on a second and third choice of flight. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and the days either side of a public holiday go within minutes, so shifting towards Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday is what puts you in front of an actual seat. Out of Haneda, the baggage counter now closing 30 minutes before departure also moves the time you need to be at the airport.

What the ticket saves can go into the room. September in Okinawa is still warm enough to swim and still inside typhoon season, so pairing an unchangeable ticket with a flexible room is the way to keep an exit: pick a rate with lenient cancellation terms on Klook or a comparable site.

Who it’s forAnyone who can take a weekday off between late August and the end of September. The travel window closes on 30 September 2026, which puts the Obon return trip out of reach. A non-changeable promotional fare is also the wrong instrument for a trip whose dates might still move. For travellers aged 25 and under, the JAL Sky Mate fare trades a higher price for far more freedom over the date.
Already booked?A booking reference on its own secures nothing. If the purchase was not completed on the same day, the reservation is cancelled without notice, so look for the payment confirmation email rather than the booking screen. Dates cannot be changed after purchase, and cancelling carries a fee.
Compared with past salesJAL repeated the format on 8 September 2026 for JMB members and 9 September for everyone else, with travel from 1 to 24 December. Haneda–New Chitose stayed at JPY 11,000 and Haneda–Okinawa at JPY 11,440; only Haneda–Itami moved, from JPY 9,130 to JPY 9,460, a rise of 3.6%. JAL stated in its announcement that it is revising sale prices upwards in line with higher fuel and other costs. This is not a line item that comes back down by waiting. The same summer also carried ANA’s domestic time sale.
