JAL is selling Sky Mate fares to travellers aged 25 or under until 8 October 2026. Haneda to Itami is JPY 6,930 one way if you pay with a JAL Card, Haneda to Naha JPY 7,920. Booking opens at midnight on the day you fly, and not a minute earlier.

Sky Mate is the fare for JMB members aged 12 to 25; JALCARD Sky Mate needs a JAL Card with a credit function, is limited to ages 15 to 25, and must be paid with that card. Per-mile figures divide the JALCARD fare by JAL’s published sector miles — 280 to Itami, 510 to New Chitose, 567 to Fukuoka, 984 to Naha. A domestic passenger facility charge is added at airports that levy one, and the number of seats is capped.

Holding the card moves the one-way fare by JPY 2,530 on Itami, JPY 3,520 on New Chitose and Fukuoka, and JPY 3,960 on Naha — a discount of 26.7% to 33.3% that grows with distance. On Naha that is JPY 7,920 over a return trip, the price of another one-way ticket. A JAL Card normally takes two to three weeks to arrive after you apply, so applying now does not reliably put one in your hand before 8 October. Without a card, the column that concerns you is the Sky Mate one, and there Itami at JPY 9,460 is no longer an obvious bargain.

Distance is what separates the four fares. Divide by sector miles and Naha comes out at JPY 8.0 a mile against JPY 24.8 for Itami — a three-fold spread inside the same sale. It is worth setting that against JAL’s year-round Sky Mate fares, which sit on the same page: Haneda to Kumamoto is JPY 6,930 on the JALCARD version over 568 miles, the same money as the sale price to Itami for twice the distance, and Itami to Tajima is JPY 3,850 all year. A short trunk route carrying the word “sale” still loses to a regional route that never goes on sale.

What defines this fare is not the price but the booking window. Seats open at 00:00 on the day of departure and cannot be held before that; changes are not permitted, no discount is layered on top, and there is no connecting fare, so a Haneda transfer onward to a regional airport is out. Sky Mate is sold on the JAL website or at the departure airport’s domestic counter, while JALCARD Sky Mate is website-only. JMB members also have to register their date of birth with an official document, and that registration must be complete before the booking attempt — a detail that decides the outcome at midnight.

One thing to plan around if you are reading this from outside Japan: JAL’s English page carries the sale fares and the conditions, but the detailed fare-table PDFs, the JMB sign-up form and the guide to registering your date of birth are published in Japanese only. Do that paperwork on a day when you have time, not at 23:50 the night before the flight. Since nobody can confirm a seat until the small hours, it also helps to know what a room costs in advance — what Naha hotels are going for is the number that decides whether a same-day dash is worth attempting.

Who it’s forTravellers of 25 or under going home to see family, or flying solo with the destination still open. The longer sectors — Naha, Fukuoka, New Chitose — are where the per-mile figure earns its keep. It suits nobody who needs to lock in a hotel or a booked activity first, because the seat cannot exist until midnight, and anyone turning 26 is simply outside the fare.
Already booked?Switching to this fare on the day rarely pays: you will not know if a seat exists until the morning of the flight, and the ticket you already hold carries a cancellation fee. If you do end up at the airport on the day, note that since 1 September the baggage drop at Haneda closes 30 minutes before departure (Haneda domestic baggage deadline).
Compared with past salesOn several routes the year-round fare is already lower than anything in this sale: Itami to Tajima JPY 3,850, Itami to Kumamoto JPY 5,830, Haneda to Nanki-Shirahama JPY 6,820, all on JALCARD Sky Mate. If you are collecting miles instead, JAL Dokokani Mile carries no same-day restriction and is far easier to build an itinerary around.
