China Airlines ran a summer discount from 3 July to 23:59 on 26 July 2026, taking 20% off the base fare on Tokyo departures to Taipei and on the Southeast Asian routes that connect through it. It covered departures up to 22 December and applied to every cabin from economy to business. There was no code to type in.

20% off every cabin, but only the base fare moves and the taxes do not

The cut lands on the fare component alone. Fuel surcharge and taxes sit outside it, and any international ticket issued in Japan from 1 July 2026 carries JPY 3,000 of international tourist tax, up from JPY 1,000 through June. Take 20% off the fare and that layer does not shift by a yen. The cheaper the date, the smaller the discount in absolute terms and the heavier tax and surcharge weigh in the total.

Where it does bite is business class and the Southeast Asian connections through Taipei, because the fare component there is large to begin with. China Airlines is a full-service carrier, so checked baggage, meals and inflight entertainment are already inside the ticket. On the same Taiwan run, a cheap unit price like StarFlyer’s JPY 5,000 Kitakyushu to Taipei narrows the gap once you add a hold bag to it. A percentage discount is worth having in proportion to what the seat costs in the first place.

Booking is a matter of searching the eligible dates and routes on the airline’s own site, where the reduced fare comes up on its own. The catch is the blackout dates over peak periods: unless you put the neighbouring days side by side on the calendar, you can land on one without noticing. Changes and refunds follow the rules of whichever fare type you pick, and the cheapest types carry the tightest conditions.

Who it’s forPeople connecting through Taipei to Bangkok or Ho Chi Minh City, and people flying business. It is no use if what you wanted was a cheap one-way hop to Taipei: 20% comes off a base fare that never gets down to LCC territory, whatever you take off it.
Already booked? The discount applied automatically in the site’s own search, with no code involved. Travel had to depart by 22 December 2026 and peak periods carried blackout dates. Changes and refunds follow the fare rules of the type you booked, not the terms of the campaign.
Compared with past salesJuly 2026 also brought Jeju Air selling 16 Japan–Korea routes from JPY 12,930 all-in and T’way Air taking up to 11% off. As a percentage 20% is the largest of the three, but LCC sales compete on the absolute total rather than the rate. The question is whether full-service comfort is worth paying 20% off a much higher number for, and on a connecting trip what a night costs at the far end often settles it before the fare does.
