ANA ran an international ticket flash sale from midnight on 4 August 2026 to 23:59 on 10 August. Return fares started at JPY 114,600 to Honolulu, JPY 162,000 to European cities and JPY 43,900 to Shanghai out of Osaka, fuel surcharge in and taxes out.

From ANA’s own list of covered routes (read 2026-08-06). Every figure is the cheapest fare type, which cannot be changed or refunded, with the fuel surcharge included and taxes extra.

Read the blackout dates before the fares. Honolulu could be flown between 1 September 2026 and 31 May 2027, with 17 to 20 September and 24 December to 3 January cut out. Sydney ran 1 September to 31 March 2027, minus 26 to 29 December. The China routes — Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian and the rest — did not start until 14 September, and excluded 6 to 11 October and 10 to 15 February 2027. European economy started on 1 October and excluded 18 to 28 December and 29 March to 4 April 2027. For a trip to Europe during September, this fare did not exist. The new year and Silver Week are taken out almost everywhere, so “buy during the sale and fly cheaply over the autumn long weekend” was not a reading this round supported.

The official list and the figures reported by news sites also disagreed on five routes. Hong Kong was JPY 54,100 officially against JPY 59,800 reported; Mumbai JPY 92,800 against 96,800; Bangkok JPY 74,000 against 76,800; Delhi JPY 118,800 against 120,800. The widest was Kuala Lumpur, JPY 92,000 against JPY 117,000 — a gap of JPY 25,000, or 21% below the reported number. The official figure was lower every time. Articles written the day a sale opens carry the figures as they stood at the start, and settings added later in the period never reach them, so anyone who judged “dearer than I expected” from a roundup was reading past the cheaper fares that were actually on sale.

“Taxes extra” is the other phrase that misleads. Any international departure from Japan carries the international tourist tax, raised to JPY 3,000 on tickets issued from 1 July 2026, and each country’s airport and security charges sit on top of that. The total is only settled once an availability search has been run, so putting these figures next to a low-cost carrier’s all-in price is comparing two different things. Changeable fare types existed as well, at JPY 118,600 instead of 114,600 on Honolulu and JPY 221,900 instead of 191,900 on Los Angeles — 16% more on that route for the right to move the date.

Who it’s forTravellers who can fix an itinerary through to next spring, anyone wanting a short East Asian hop to Shanghai, Beijing or Hong Kong, and anyone curious about premium economy to Hawaii. Shanghai out of Osaka at JPY 43,900 was the lowest setting in the whole list. It is the wrong fare for dates that might move: every covered fare prohibits changes and refunds, so a trip that shifts with work cannot use it.
Already booked?Check the blackout dates on your own route first — the new year and Silver Week are cut from almost every region, and European economy only began on 1 October. ANA’s page said in as many words that access concentrates at certain times and the site may be hard to reach, which is an argument against leaving it to the last evening. Shifting the dates to either side of a blackout usually moves the room rate too, so price the nights on both sides before choosing.
Compared with past salesANA ran the same shape of sale the following month, and that round opened at JPY 41,700 return in economy — JPY 2,200 under the August floor, about 5% lower. A full-service carrier’s international flash sale closes within days, so missing one means waiting for the next with no published schedule to wait against.

More: against the other sales of that week, this one sold for less than a quarter as long

Early August 2026 had several international sales out of Japan running at once. ANA’s lasted seven days, 4 to 10 August. Qantas’s New Zealand sale lasted three, 4 to 6 August. T’way Air’s August t’sale ran the whole month, 1 to 31 August, which makes ANA’s window under a quarter as long.

The three did not quote on the same basis either. ANA included the fuel surcharge and left taxes out; Qantas and T’way Air included both. Setting the headline numbers side by side therefore compares nothing, and the only way to rank them is to carry the same dates through all three booking flows to a final payable total. The practical consequence of a short, intense sale from a full-service carrier is that the itinerary has to be decided while the sale is still running, because there is no published cycle to plan the next one around.
