Shares are a percentage of people booked. The data covers overseas tours with a return date between 1 July and 30 September in 2025 and in 2026; rounding means a few rows do not reconcile exactly with the point change. Checked on the Reiwa Travel release, 2026-09-14.

South Korea and Taiwan still hold 56.4% between them, and the order at the top has not moved. What moved is the price. South Korea averages JPY 74,161 over 3.3 days and Taiwan JPY 71,515 over 3.9; the Southeast Asian countries that took share sit between JPY 130,000 and JPY 165,000. Reiwa Travel puts the rise down to the weak yen and higher prices on the ground, with fuel surcharges lifted on long-haul routes by instability in the Middle East. The same summer now costs nearly twice as much depending on which way a traveller jumps.

Vietnam gained the most, and 57.8% of the people who booked it were going to Da Nang, ahead of Ho Chi Minh City at 17.9% and Hanoi at 16.7%. Da Nang averages JPY 153,162 over 5.1 days, above the Vietnamese average of JPY 137,294 over 5.0, and the tour names lean on “along My Khe Beach”, “five-star hotel” and “direct flight with return transfers”. The flight from Narita or Haneda runs about six hours nonstop. Ho Chi Minh City at JPY 109,926 and Hanoi at JPY 108,699 sit JPY 40,000 to 50,000 lower on a shorter four to five days. Women aged 25 to 29 drove the gain, up 5.9 points. How the days fall is set out in the Da Nang and Hoi An four-night model plan.

Two things this data will not tell you. Silver Week in September cannot be pulled out of it, because every booking returning between 1 July and 30 September is counted together. And the 4.3-day average is a blend rather than a typical trip: South Korea’s 3.3 days sit inside it alongside Southeast Asia’s five-day range. The dividing line, as I read it, is whether the trip can be stretched by a day or two. Choosing Da Nang or Bali without five days available leaves an itinerary weighted towards getting there.

Who it’s forIf the budget decides, South Korea and Taiwan are still the floor: three to four days in the JPY 70,000s. Taiwan’s JPY 71,515 over 3.9 days lines up almost exactly with the three-day weekend course for Taipei, Jiufen and Shifen.
Already booked?Your price was fixed when you booked, so the 30% rise is a figure for next year’s budget rather than this one. Singapore at JPY 162,964 over 5.0 days was the other big mover, with women aged 25 to 29 becoming its largest single segment at 21.8% (the Singapore four-day plan).
Compared with last summerThe expensive end held its ground without growing: Hawaii at JPY 270,738 on an average six nights, Australia at JPY 233,887 on a 2.4% share. Hong Kong went the other way, from 3.9% to 2.1%.
